More than a Cheeseburger
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 10-20 minutes
This recipe is inspired from a trip I made to Phoenix to visit my friend John Paderi. He cooked up some incredible hamburgers, and I am doing my best to emulate them. Before this, a hamburger just had meat in it. Now it is a recipe that I enjoy making and serving.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (use the stuff with a high fat content, it's cheaper and it tastes better because of the extra fat)
- 2 cloves finely minched fresh garlic
- A few slices of red onion, finely chopped
- 1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped
- Slices of cheese (probably four, if you divide the 1 pound into 1/4 pound burgers)
Directions
- Combine beef, garlic, onion, and pepper in a bowl. Mix by hand.
- Cook on a grill to your liking. My preference is so that there is no pink or red meat in the center.
- Add cheese to the top, allow to melt. (American is always good, but you can try blue cheese for a special event)
- Serve hot. For extra points, you can toast the buns on the grill for a minute or so, while the cheese is melting on the hambugers. Serve with standard burger condiments available on the side: mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, etc.
