June 6, 2008 - I'll have to go back and check the records, but I think today might be my best birthday yet. And why not, since it's my 29th? I started the day off late, driving down to Kentucky to meet up with some old co-workers for lunch. On the way there Ellie and I drove past the house my dad grew up in, the house I lived in while going to college, the University of Cincinnati, downtown, and eventually arrived in Highland Heights. I thought it was only going to be a few people, but Tara invited a herd of about 9 people to come out to Skyline for lunch. There were several people I didn't know, and also Alice, Tim, Carl, and Ryan, all friends from General Cable. Ellie and I went to the Cincinnati Art Museum after lunch, and then continued on to Burnett Woods to play a short round of disc golf. Nothing has changed at Burnett. What was the 'gay hangout' in Cincinnati still is. We saw all the familiar men sitting in their cars in the parking lot waiting for someone else to come by for their secret rendezvous's away from public scrutiny. They've never gotten in the way of me playing a fun round of disc golf before, and they didn't stop me today. The grass was long so my disc didn't skip, but I still managed to throw an even round of golf. We got to play a round of Settlers of Catan with Mike back at his house before heading down to LeAnne and Matt's wedding rehearsal. I had to look up the church before going since it is downtown and I don't know many churches other than the Catholic ones. It turned out to be at the same church that I went to 6 or 7 years ago for Will and Stacey (who were divorced within a few years of their marriage, a fact I wasn't about to share with LeAnne and Matt since they were about to embark on marriage at the same church). The wedding party continued on to Newport on the Levee to have dinner at Claddah. Ellie and I stopped at Fountain Square to sneak in some Graeters Ice Cream. I did a little double duty by stopping at Skeffingtons at Newport on the Levee to get fitted for my tux in Casey and Jamie's wedding that I will be attending next month in Cincinnati, and then we had dinner. We had to sneak out of the party early to meet up with Jake Mecklenborg at Northside Tavern. I have been exposing Ellie to Jake Speed and the Freddies for well over a year, and she was eager to see them perform. Jake was less eager, but willing to hang out with us. We headed back to Mike's to close out a long day.
