January 27, 2008 - I was up pretty early today...6:30 AM. I just couldn't sleep, probably because I went to bed at around 10:30 the night before. I got up, did all the usual Sunday morning stuff, and then waited for Mike to come over. He didn't make it to my house until noon, so I had a lot of waiting time. We loaded the canoe onto the roof of my car and drove to Taylor Lake. The day had come to test out the theory that we can recover the costs of the canoe by pulling discs out of the lake. Our results were a little mixed. The water level was high because of the recent rains. Normally the lake would be a foot or two lower. The wind was pumping hard towards the south, making it hard to keep the canoe in one place. And we had a golf ball grabber for pulling the discs out of the water. These three things were not the ideal combination. If the lake were a little lower, the wind wasn't blowing, and we had a better disc grabber, we could have come away with at least 5 discs. Instead, we left with 1. I was surprised at how uniform the depth of the lake was. It was about 4 feet deep throughout. We played a round of disc golf after putting the canoe back on top of the car, and I scored a round of 0 (even), which is my best in quite a while. Ellie and I went to church, and then to her mom's for fried chicken dinner. We got home around 10:30.
