February 28, 2008 - This was a very cold Thursday. I moved to Florida because I don't like cold weather. At least we don't get very many days that are cold down here, otherwise I'd have to start looking for jobs in Aruba or St Thomas or Costa Rica. I spent most of today inside working, and then after work I met up with some people at the Wing House on Ulmerton Road for drinks and appetizers. Since today is also a boneless Thursday, I had boneless wings for lunch and then regular wings for dinner. I was able to make some direct comparisons. First, boneless wings are way better than bone-in wings. They're not nearly as messy and the meat is better. Second, Buffalo Wild Wings knows how to make their flavors taste great. At Wing House, the wings were not that tasty. Most people probably don't go to Wing House for the food, though. They go for the view. After Wing House I went home, changed, and went to the gym since I skipped yesterday. I don't like skipping two days in a row if possible. There was a Ferrari parked out front, one of those awesome ones with the V12 engine visible in the rear through the plate of glass. I wondered who might own a Ferrari that comes to the same gym as me. I mean, here we are, looking at a $300,000 car, and someone is paying $12 a month to go to the gym rather than go to their own private gym or a big name Gold's Gym or something? I was surprised. Maybe it was Mr. Largo, the guy who owns the whole city. He was just checking in on his investments. Anyway, since it was late and I hadn't taken the dogs on a run in a while, I braved the cold weather with a long sleeve shirt and took the dogs for a run after doing the weight lifting at the gym. Jake and Bailey have gotten too fast for me. I was sprinting and couldn't keep up with them. Bailey has a messed up back leg and can still outrun me. It's a good thing these dogs like where they live, otherwise I'd have to worry about them running off and not being able to catch them. Ellie and I did some tax accounting before bed. I added up all my receipts from 2007 to figure out how much I paid in taxes. I learned a few things. 1. I have a lot of receipts. That means I spend too much money. 2. Food isn't taxed unless you go out to eat. 3. Sometimes things like clothing aren't taxed, like in the weeks leading up to school starting. I need to take advantage of that. So after adding everything up, I paid about $525 in sales tax for 2007. That doesn't include the taxes I paid for gas, which is technically an excise tax, not a sales tax. If I added in the fuel tax, it probably would have doubled my number. I'm trying to itemize as much as I can on my tax bill. I mean, if the government is going to make rules and exceptions for taxes, I should take advantage of every last one of them, right? If I don't, I'm missing out on money, donating it to the government to subsidize everyone elses taxes.
