February 16, 2008 - Saturday started pretty early with me making pancakes for breakfast. It is amazing how many steps and items go into making a pancake breakfast for 2. By my count, here is the bare minimum number of things needed. I would love if someone could offer up a way to reduce this and still get delicious buttermilk pancakes, for reasons I'll mention later.
- Milk
- Egg
- Orange Juice
- Butter
- Syrup
- Non-stick spray
- Pancake mix
- Glass for juice
- 2 Plates
- Measuring cup
- Mixing bowl
- 2 Forks
- 1 Knife
- Whisk
- Spatula
- Ladle
- Square Griddle
So for the record, that is 19 items, 12 of which need to be washed afterward. And it is mostly those 12 items that need to be washed that upset me. I can make most italian dishes using only 4 to 6 items that need to be washed. Breakfast uses twice as much. And today, I had a lot of dishes to wash. Last night we built up a big stack of dishes, and had some left over from before that as well. It took about half an hour for me to wash what seemed like every dish in the house. I am not really complaining about that, though. I don't mind washing dishes and half an hour is not a big deal compared to the hour or more a dish washer would take to wash the same amount of dishes. I just think it is ridiculous that one meal can create so many dirty dishes. Ellie and I went to her cousin Erin's party later in the afternoon, and then on the way back to our house stopped to look at cars. We found a nice 1991 Volvo 940 Turbo for sale, listed at $1900. It is in pretty darn good condition considering its age, and has "only" 135k miles on it, from a single owner. I'm going to have to check this out with Mike and get his opinion. Back at home I loaded a whole lot of music equipment into my car and drove to my parents community for a gig. Bonnie and I performed for a few hours, then I went back home, called Ellie, and had to go back to the party to pick her up (apparently she had gotten a ride back to the party because it was still going on). When I got there, they were apparently (they being everyone except Ellie) were on their fifth bottle of Patron tequila. I managed to get one of the last shots of it before they ran out, and then I took Ellie back home. I found out later that the party, which started at 1 PM, ended around 3:30 AM. And the most interesting aspect of this...it was a birthday party for a 5 year old.
