June 7, 2007 - I was surprised that we were able to get up early enough to get on the road by 6 AM. It was an easy drive today from Cincinnati to Washington DC. We stopped only to get gas and eat, pulling into The Catholic University of America at 3 PM to meet up with Rob. He took us to the Basilica on campus which was amazingly huge. Then we took the metro downtown. Unfortunately, most things downtown close around 5, so we just walked around the Washington Monument and the World War II monument. Then we took the metro back to the car, and drove to Northeast Washington to get dinner at an awesome Mexican restaurant. Everything was made fresh, which I could definitely taste. Their tortilla chips and salsa were awesome. After dinner we dropped off Rob at his apartment so that he could do his homework, while we went driving downtown. First up was Iwo Jima. Next we went to the FDR memorial. There was actually parking here, so we parked and walked to the Jefferson memorial. Helicopters were continuously flying up and down the Potomac River. Were they doing surveillance, or were they carrying diplomats from work to home? On our way back to Rob's we passed through Chinatown. We picked Rob up and went to an Irish Pub around the corner from his place. After a few drinks we went home and went to bed.
