January 25, 2006 - Today didn't go exactly as planned. Last nite I made plans to meet up with Charlie, the bartender for the crew, at Krystal, a resort in Puerto Vallarta. Then before bed I got an email from Lauren saying she would be online to chat in the afternoon. So I skipped out on Charlie to chat with Lauren, and then Lauren never showed up. What a bummer. I got to listen to my roommate whining about not liking the music we play at the cocktail sets. Apparently he is too good to play cha-cha's and waltzes, the exact sort of music that gets people up and dancing. It was definitely amusing to see this happen, since he has no clue how to play the music, and never practices it, and therefore will never get better at it. I will admit that I wasn't that good at playing when I got on the ship, but I put in my time practicing so that I could get better at what I was being paid to do. It's sad to see Mike putting his time and effort into drinking, socializing, and playing with photo editing software on his computer, since he does such a poor job at what he is being paid to do. I'm learning a lot about people on this job. I have learned that attitude towards something makes a big difference in the outcome, and that raw talent will only get you so far.
