January 21, 2006 - Today was consumed by the San Diego Public Library, where I hung out with my favorite homeless friends of the city. The library seems to attract the vagrants of the city who use the place mostly for the public bathroom. However, there was one man in particular who caught my attention today. He had a laptop, a cell phone, and some sort of music playing device. Other than that, he was not 'normal'. His shirt was anti-Bush. He had a sign next to him that says "Osama Bin Laden died in December 2001". He spent a good 10 minutes flossing his teeth...in the computer area of the library. He had some sort of Islamic CD collection with him. A very bizarre man. Back on the ship was the usual regimen of sailaway party, dinner, and art auction preview. Then I decided it wasn't too late, and I went to the gym. I brought my iPod mini for the first time. It was tough running on the treadmill, keeping the ear buds in my ears, but I managed. The music provided the motivation I was seeking, and I ran 5 miles in 34 minutes 50 seconds, which is just under a 7 minute mile pace. What a run!
