June 13, 2005 - Today I bought a life insurance policy. How weird is that? I'm a single guy with no dependants, and if I die my sister gets a ton of money. Let's hope I never have to let this policy get paid out. The guy selling the insurance said that if I were a woman I would pay half as much. He said that women live like 8 years longer than men. I checked it out, and he was close. A white male born in 1980 is expected to live to the age of 70.7 and a woman is expected to live to the age of 78.1. I couldn't believe the difference, both in terms of age and cost. Does 7 or so years really add up to twice as much expense for insurance? I guess so.
