January 19, 2005 - The work day didn't really have anything special about it today. I lunched in the warehouse on some chicken tenders while playing basketball with Tim Waters and my co-op. I won the first game of horse, Tim won the second. I was in a lot of pain after playing, in my chest, an area that keeps getting re-aggrivated. I drove up to jazz band practice and managed to get there in only 30 minutes. I stopped on the way to pick up a bowl of broccoli cheese soup from Panera. I am starting to like their bread and soup option. It's a complete meal for under $4. Practice went reasonably well, but I had trouble hitting high notes due to the pain in my chest. It's a pain in the muscle on the right side of my chest, caused by stretching certain ways, coughing, or breathing too heavily. We didn't have a bass player at practice, and there were only two trumpet players until halfway through practice, when another one showed up. There were only 3 sax players, too. If we can get those holes filled in, we could become a good jazz band, but until then, I am going to continue to be frustrated by the lack of full instrumentation. Another problem with the group is that we had 5 trombone players but not a single one of them was playing the solos in their parts, which meant vacant parts of songs where there were supposed to be trombone solos. If I had a sax, I would have filled in for them, but I'm not so comfortable soloing on the trumpet yet. I went to Christie's after practice, and we drove up to Sneaky Pete's to meet up with Jake, Chris, and Kavia. We weren't there very long since it was a weeknight. I drove Christie home and then went to my place where Jake was waiting to be let in. He stayed the night at my apartment on the couch.
