February 18, 2005 - I needed some more time added onto today for all the stuff that I wanted to do. I could have played volleyball after work, I could have gone to the Mad Frog with Chris and Jake, and I could have even done more work. I could have gotten some exercise running or playing racquetball. There are so many things that pull me in different directions that I have to make the 'hard choices' on what to do with my time. Right now I operate on a first come, first serve basis. If someone asks me to do something, it goes on my calendar. I don't generally move things off of my calendar unless it gets cancelled or if I really want/need to do something else. How did we as a society get to the point where we fill up our calendars with action items and lists to check off? I think back to when this country was 200 years younger, and I bet that people spent a lot more of their time doing leisurely things like reading. Maybe it is because we have so many options of things to do now that we are inclined to maximize our time, or maybe it is just me, trying to stick my foot in every puddle I see.
