April 12, 2005 - Something that I realize more and more is that I seem to have something in me that other people don't have the same amount. I am very aware of time and how it relates to what I do. I had several things today that had to happen at very specific times and I was right on time or early for each of them, but the people around me that needed to be there didn't seem to have the same ambition or desire to be on time. I keep thinking back to that silly thing written in the Lakota High School band handbook...to be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to miss the bus. That was probably where I first learned that it is better to show up early instead of late. Time has been standardized and developed over the course of history so that people could be more efficient, rather than saying 'I'll meet you there later', and then hoping you would run into that person at some time later. We're at the point where 'later' can be clearly defined as 10:30 or 4:22 or whatever is agreed upon, but there doesn't seem to be any accountability for being late. I guess that is just something I should give up on, as I am in the minority on being on time.
