April 11, 2005 - What is the value of sarcasm? It is my most natural form of humor, but I have a hard time recognizing when other people are using it. I also know that others have a hard time recognizing when I use it. Sarcasm is almost a form of deception, because it can be used to make someone think something, when in reality you don't mean what they are hearing. I've tried to cut back on the use of sarcasm because I don't think it is my most flattering trait, but I still fall back on it as a gut reaction. Whenn someone used sarcasm today with me, I didn't find out it was sarcasm until I was talking to someone else about the issue, and they told me that the other person was just joking. I was put off by the person who had used the sarcasm when they were talking to me because I thought they were being serious, and then I came to find out that they were just joking around. That is the reason that I am trying to stop using sarcasm, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to develop a better form of humor to replace it.
