March 10, 2004 – Getting out of my garage is becoming a little easier for me now that I’ve learned what to do and what not to do. My garage space is very tight so if I don’t make just the right moves, it could spell disaster. Since I did some grocery shopping the night before, I had food to eat during lunch, rather than going out and buying food. There was also time at lunch to go to the bank, buy lottery tickets for my dad, and play basketball back at work. The afternoon went by very quickly. Actually, the whole work day went by fast. I felt like I had accomplished a lot at the end of the day. Jessie Berne was in town from Youngstown today so we met up at Dewey’s Pizza for dinner. Randomly, one of the co-ops from work was also there, but I didn’t say hi since she was in a fairly large group. Jessie is fun to talk to because she can really push the limits of my artistic side. We talked about composers and music and philosophy (like, actually Socrates!), and it felt great, as if this dialogue were more meaningful than most conversations I have. I think probably the word to describe our conversation was ‘academic’, where as most of my interactions with other people are very superficial or real-world. I had to take off right after dinner to get up to UC. Mr. Martin needed me to rehearse his jazz band at 7:30. I showed up on time but the door was locked. Eventually someone with a key showed up, but apparently not the whole band was coming to practice tonite. There was only 1 trumpet and 2 trombones, but most everybody else was there. I drove back to my house, packed up some stuff, and then headed over to my apartment for the night.
