January 18, 2004 - My plan for today was to start off by going to church. There is a church right across the street from the hotel that I am staying at, so I figured that it would be no problem rolling out of bed, going to church at 10 AM, and then meeting Sharon at 11 AM. On my way to my hotel I noticed that they had lots of Sunday services on the hour. Apparently I missed the fact that they have a 8, 9, 11, and noon service, but no 10 service. When I got down to the church at 10 I suddenly saw it clearly, and went back up to my hotel room for some more laying around watching TV until it was time to meet Sharon. Sharon was my mom's friend who lived next door when I was 0 to 1 years old. I obviously didn't remember anything about her, but she lives in San Antonio and was willing to show me around town. We drove around the downtown area first, then visited The Missions. These are old church properties that were used to convert the Indians to Catholicism back in the late 1700's. The buildings were pretty awesome. In one of the larger sites they were actually having a church service complete with mariachi singing and trumpets and Spanish language. Of course no trip to San Antonio would be complete without a round of disc golf. Sharon walked a few holes with me, determined that the game was tougher than she initially thought, and then sat in the car reading while I played the course. Some tournament was going on so I got delayed a lot on the course by large groups that didn't let me play through. I thought the course, named "City Park", was fairly challenging and possibly one of the best courses that I have played. I only got to play holes 10 through 28 of the course, missing 1-9. Sharon drove me back to my hotel and then I got dinner at some ribs place on the river. On my way back I got dessert at a Mexican place and then went up to my hotel to relax in the hot tub. After I sat in the hot tub for a while, I decided I would go back out and check out Tower of the Americas. This is the most boring tower that I have ever seen in my life. It goes straight up in the air and has a round observation deck and restaurant around the pillar. I took some photos and then walked back to my hotel to get some sleep.
