January 17, 2004 - Anna picked me up at my house very early in the morning and drove me to the airport. I flew to San Antonio. Once there, it was so much warmer than Cincinnati, but I had to find a way to get to the hotel I am staying at. I took the city bus. Rather than $15 for a taxi or $9 for the shuttle, I spent $1 and rode the bus. It took about 50 minutes but the savings was worth it since my room wasn't ready for me to check in, even by the time I showed up. Finally I got checked in and then got lunch at a pretty good Mexican place on the Riverwalk. The rest of the afternoon I spent walking around and taking photos. I had dinner at the hotel restaurant and then walked down the river to listen to some music. First I listened outside on the patio of this place, and then went inside. The guy who was doing the seating put me next to some random person and wouldn't let me move my chair more than 2 inches. He seemed Italian, maybe with mob connections, so I didn't disobey. I had a few drinks, listened to some great jazz, and then went back to my hotel room to sleep.
