January 1, 2004 - The housekeeping lady woke me up with the declaration "Housekeeping!". I told her that I was in here and then tried to go back to sleep. Just before checkout time at 11 AM my sister and I left the hotel and drove back to my parents place in Largo. The drive was pretty quick and eventless. I showered upon the return and then had a sandwich for lunch. So far, not much excitement. My mom and I played shuffleboard and then billiards before going shopping at Tyrone Mall. I now have some new running shoes, a few books, and a calendar. The calendar is the coolest thing to happen so far today. It is a tangram daily puzzle. A tangram takes 7 shapes, and a picture, and your brain. The goal is to figure out how to get the shapes to form the picture. Every day I'll get a new puzzle to solve. It is pretty fun. I solved the first one in about 5 minutes. I thought it was a pretty challenging picture to make, so they didn't start things off as easy as I was expecting. My dad grilled steak for dinner and it was good. We drank champagne (spumanti, really). I was the only one who actually didn't mind the stuff that we drank. It wasn't that good, but it wasn't bad. We all played a game of shuffleboard and then went down to the beach to get some dessert at TJ's. There were a few girls working again that were cute. If I were living in Florida I would probably ask one of them out but since I'm only here on vacation nothing happened. We returned home and I played my mom and sister in some billiards before settling in for the night. This was not the most exciting first day of the year ever, but it was good.
