April 18, 2004 - My flight out of Dayton was at 1:50, and I kept second-guessing the time that I had to wake up in the morning, until finally I got out of bed at 9:15. This left me time to go for a long run down to the Millenium Peace Bell in Newport, KY, following the same path as yesterday, with extra running beyond the purple bridge. On the way back I didn't have quite as much energy as on the way down the hill, so I walked some, and discovered that I can get water from the water fountain at the Greyhound bus station. I showered, packed my bags, and got in my Vibe to drive to Dayton for my flight. I thought I was going to have a lot of extra time at the airport, but I actually ended up with only about 15 extra minutes that I used to get lunch. My flight to Cleveland was on the smallest commercial plane known to man, with one seat on the left side, and two seats on the right side, facing the front. There was overhead baggage space only over the two seat sections, and about 15 rows, maybe less. The flight was 30 minutes. It would be nice if there were cheap commercial airlines that could fly between cities like this, but with none of the rigamarole involved with going to an airport, taking tons of time on both sides of getting in and out of the plane. Of course, in todays safety conscious and suspicious world, I don't see that happening. I suppose I could pay a private pilot, but that would not be quite as economical. The next flight was from Cleveland, OH to Providence, RI. My plan was to meet up with Rob Saley and his girlfriend Laurie Waters on the steps of the state-house in Providence. The major problem with this plan was that I had no idea where the state-house was. Luckily for me, the state-house was both easy to find and I got directions from the guys at the Hertz rental place when I was getting my car. They gave me a Mazda 6, which is the car that Brett is looking to get. I was surprised to find that it was cold in Providence, so I walked from the state-house to Old Navy to buy a hooded sweatshirt. Rob was a little late, but it wasn't a big deal. While I was waiting, I made reservations at the Cheesecake Factory and by the time my buzzer was going off, he showed up. None of us were very hungry, but we ate there anyway. I had dinner and some cheesecake. We strolled around the streets of Providence and then Rob and Laurie headed back to Boston and I found my way to my hotel. The hotel was located pretty close to the plant I will be going to tomorrow. I stayed in the rest of the night, and spent about 45 minutes on the phone talking to LeAnne as she was driving from Dayton down to Cincinnati. Maybe tomorrow I will give her a call while I make the same drive.
