March 9, 2003 - Just as Kavia said, her phone alarm went off at 9:15. I struggled to get out of bed but by 9:30 I was fully assembled and ready to drive back to Cincinnati. Vanessa and I drove straight back to my house without any stops, although there was danger several times of her throwing up. I was concerned about her throwing up, not so much for her, because I knew that throwing up would help her get the alcohol out of her system from last night, but more so that I would get the inside of my car ruined! Luckily a tragedy was averted and we safely made it home about 2.5 hours later. Route 32 is so boring, it is unbelievable. After making a few phone calls I took a shower to wash all of last nights bar grime off and then loaded up my car. I can testify that you can own a Hyundai Tiburon and put an entire bands worth of stuff in it. I had 2 15" speakers, a PA head, a large bag that held wires and my wireless mic, another smaller bag holding my church music and mic, a soprano sax, alto sax, flugelhorn, sax stand, flugelhorn stand, and a digital camera. There was still room to spare in the front passenger seat but it was certainly loaded down. I got to the gig at 12:53 and we were supposed to meet at noon. Toni was already there so we tried to find a way into the building. While looking Cloppert showed up. It was quite a surprise to see him there early. There seemed to be no way into the building, but just as we were going back to the parking lot to meet up with the other guys in the band someone in charge peeked out a door and told us where to get into the building. After getting everything set up and driving to McDonalds on Mitchell Avenue for lunch Fisher Effect took the stage. This was a fairly amusing gig because we played for an audience of 3rd graders and their parents, essentially. Not our typical crowd. In between our music set there was a puppet show. This may be the first time in rock history that a band opened up for a puppet show! After the gig was over I high tailed it to church, arriving a few minutes late but it wasn't a problem. Church went smoothly but I am missing Mike, Ed, Chuck, and Liz not being there. Also Mary Lee is long gone, I don't know what happened to her. I drove back to my house and got a call from Janet who was coming over to my house so that we could go out and get some coffee at Kaldi's. Actually, I don't drink coffee so I would get something else, but anyway Kaldi's was closed, and so was my back up plan, The Celestial (perched atop Mount Adams), which led us to the Blue Wisp Jazz Club. Josh Stromberg joined us and we all had a good time listening to Cat City play some fusion inspired smooth jazz.
