March 28, 2003 - Since I left work early yesterday and wasn't feeling good it would have made sense for me to show up on time to work but I still was a few minutes late. When I got to work I found out that I wasn't charged for the half sick-day that I thought I was using by going home early. That rocks because it means that I essentially got a free half day of pay (although I only left 2 hours early so it wasn't a HUGE deal). I stayed pretty busy at work. For lunch I met up with Janet. She was in the area in the morning at a hospital taking a tour and so we got Wendy's from the drive-thru and went to a park that I had discovered earlier in the week. We had lunch at a picnic table overlooking the Ohio River (on the KY side) and then rollerbladed a lap around the park. It was a great lunch hour; I really enjoy rollerblading and spending time with Janet so what could be better than combining the two? The rest of the day blew by and in the evening I had Janet over for dinner. Jake was there (after I picked him up from the Party Source). Actually, I stopped by the Party Source on my way home from work to pick up some parmesan cheese and a bottle of wine, and then when I got home I called Jake to find out where he was and he said he was near the Party Source, so I had to drive back out there to pick him up. For dinner I made the simplest meal possible: penne with LaRosa's sauce and parmesan cheese accompanied by a glass of Shiraz-Cabernet. It was a good but simple meal. Following dinner festivities we met up with Kavia, Chris, and Jason to get dessert at Graeters Ice Cream. I had a bowl of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge. Janet had raspberry with chocolate chunks. I think I might get that next time, it was pretty tasty. Then the group moved the party downtown to the open art exhibits on Main Street and surrounding areas. One display struck my fancy. We were in a building and I saw the downtown clown. I don't know how many people know of the downtown clown but he is a man that works downtown and dresses up as a clown. He is a construction worker so he has his construction hat on and a tool-box-pail-kind-of-thing and is pretty famous for this. As it turns out it was HIS ART that was on display in the gallery. The art was very interesting because it focused on what he wanted the city to look like. He drew sketches of bulldozers taking over parts of town or buildings and turning them into something more industrial. I was blown away by this. The rain that started while we were on the art tour chased us home. At this point I decided it was time to go to bed, and just about everyone else went out to Fries Cafe.
