March 15, 2003 - Today can be defined as the day of lost opportunities and random events. My plan was to meet up with Mary at 2 PM to play some disc golf, then take her out to dinner, and after dinner go to a modern dance recital she had to go to for school. However, preceding this I ran into Grant Smiley online and he invited me out to lunch. Since I was up early enough and had time before meeting Mary I agreed. We went to Grant's favorite place, Indigo's. I had a personal 8" pepperoni pizza. It was quite good. He brought his girlfriend Andrea Karpinski. She was pretty quiet during lunch. Grant and I talked about cars and girls and all the things guys talk about. I drove back to my house just in time to give Mary a call at 1:45 and tell her I was on my way and that I needed to get gas for my car. I filled up the tank with $1.69 a gallon gas at BP by campus and then drove up to Siddall to meet up with Mary. When I got there I called up to her room using the phone in the lobby and she didn't answer, so I left a message. Then I sat in my car for about 15 minutes and she still didn't show up. I went to the phone again and told her that I was waiting and that I would leave in 10 minutes if she didn't show up. She never did show up so I drove back home. Steve Gentry was there and I was in the mood to play some disc golf. I convinced Steve to play Idlewild down in Kentucky by the airport. It is by far the hardest course in the Cincinnati area. I didn't do too great but I had some good throws. By Steve's calculation he won by 1 throw but I am not sure if he added up his score correctly. The game took 2 hours which is pretty fast for a round at Idlewild. During the game we ran into 2 guys unfamiliar with Idlewild. They were lost so they joined our group. They have a pretty good amount of practicing to do if they want to conquer Idlewild. So do I. Back at home I was in the mood to go to Best Buy and replace the phone on my desk that was acting up at random intervals. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Steve and Josh both went to Best Buy with me. I bought a phone (it rocks!, it has speakerphone both on the base and on the handset) and Steve bought a battery for his camera. Then we drove over to Tri-County Mall so that Steve could replace the battery in his watch. Since it was well into dinner time we stopped at Don Pablos where Steve happened to know the guy working the bar (free beer!). Dinner was great and it was nice hanging out with Josh and Steve. Back at home I was hoping that Janet would come over but she ended up just talking on the phone with me for a few hours. What a random day.
