January 19, 2003 - Another crazy Sunday. I woke up at 12:30 in the afternoon. What is better than waking up after noon? I don't think many things compare. I spent the day sitting around until it was time to go to dinner. Becky Heine and I went to the Barrelhouse but they were closed. I used my backup downtown restaurant as a substitution - Rock Bottom Brewery. We had dinner and I dropped her off at the dorm (she's an RA) so that I could get to church. I was about 20 minutes late to practice but everything went alright. After church Josh said that John Paderi had called and that he wanted to play open mic. When I called John back (I have actually started calling people back when they leave messages, it is a new thing for me, I haven't decided if I like it or not yet) he said that Nick was in town (his friend that plays guitar) and that he wants to use my keyboard and play open mic. I asked if he wanted to just borrow it or if I was playing too, and he said that he definitely wanted me to play. John and Nick came over and we practiced a few songs. John rehashed 'I Called the Doctor' which I barely remembered since it had been nearly a year since we played it last. We went up to Cody's Cafe for Open Mic and John and Nick got pretty drunk. By the time we were on stage they weren't really suited for playing but we
made it through 3 songs anyway. John missed a couple lyrics and the
strumming wasn't quite tight but it worked. Following this we drove over
to John's apartment and played some more songs, including Canon in D and the theme from Titanic. Good times.
